The Ice Relic Final

7 loves
I went through the relic course, and wanted to share how it turned out. I deviated from some of the creative decisions to use the course provided silhouette to create an ice element wand. While I am happy with the final output.I also want to share that I made mistakes that needed me to stop texturing and go right back to mid polly to fix the mesh when the normals bugged out on me. I am attaching my mistake with the normal bake on one of the parts, I had to ensure the mesh did not change its silhouette too much when going from high to mid. By doing this I was able to fix the normals baking issue.

Still I learned a lot from this course and pace set by the instructor Chunck was really good. THANK YOU! When I finished the high poly model, I was amazed at what I achieved. And also coming from the CORE courses a lot of things really 'clicked' like all the UV tools and how to make seam more strategicially.

Congratulations on completing this amazing achievement! It feels even better than beating a difficult https://geometrydash2.co level!

What are you planning to do next with your high-poly model? (Like retopology and baking to low-poly?)

Thank you! Although I completed Retopo and bake steps to publish the project here, I did it to strictly learn process only. I had to make some game assets right after (cakes and confections) so this course provided the required primer. The wireframe screenshot is my low poly model. And the final render on the top is with the final baked texture. Right now it at 13k triangles I would say it’s probably not low poly enough for a third person game. But it’s pretty ok for FPS. Maybe someday if I make a fantasy fps I will use this.

Feels like this is the most powerful ice magic item on a game. You should name it The Absolute Zero Wand. Awesome result 🤙

  • That is one impressive ice relic. 🥶
Thank you so much for sharing the whole process, mistakes included. I plan to go through the course shortly after I finish Core, so knowing potential issues ahead of time is appreciated. 🙏
