Kent Trammel's course "Texturing & Shading a Stylistic Character" is a good choice to improve one's knowledge in blender cycles.
After several hours I got this result:

everything looks great other than the skin, it looks a bit plastic-y like a toy figure and his nose looks a little sunburnt :)
Pancake looks amazing and everything else is spot on though in my opinion
