It's true that you can get the same results with blender but Substance Painter works very fast with the layering system and the smart materials. Also baking of all the maps normal/curvature/etc is really fast. You can get great results in a short time. And who says a hobby may not cost a little bit of money? ;)

Does the substance painter makes the difference? Isn't it a bit too much cost for an hobby designer and what does it do that blender cannot do? Does it only save worktime while with blender you can achieve the same result with a little bit more of effort?
