Did this for the current CG Boost Challenge "Mythology". There is a lot more I wanted to do with this and fix but ran out of time. It was my first time working with a time restraint and the second time I have put a scene together fully. Any feedback welcome :)

  • It's like one half Lion King and another half surreal nightmare haha. The detail is really well considered. I love it!

  • I really like what you've created here @shannon I love these type of mythical creatures!
My favourite part is the storytelling, I can imagine a warrior slain just out of sight not far from his shield. 👍👍👍

  • First : Well done, it looks nice and. clearly has seen a lot of effort put into it.

Second : I have strong Heroes of Might and Magic vibes here, but it may be just me...

A few comments from a noob like myself :

I think the 2 big issues are the lighting as said by others, and the materials. This results in a very plastic looking results, especially with these light reflecting on thre feathers of the wing.

The lighting looks quite off, and the very strong rim of lights doesn't match the scene. (as well as the intensity of the light in front of the griffin).

But fantastic work overall, I couldn't do half ot this properly.

  • @adrian2301 Yeah that makes a lot of sense and now seems very obvious. I've made some changes to fix this and resubmitted it. Thanks so much, as always

  • .
Great work on the Griffin, the front legs/claws look really good.
    A tip on the lighting,
When using an HDRI or any image in the background,
the best option is to match the lighting to the background.
I think the rim light is nice but a little too bright for the sun behind a cloud, and the light on the rocks is also too bright. The fill light on the front of the Griffin, again maybe too bright.
A background with the sun over to the left even out of shot would be great for your lighting setup.
You can setup your lights first then find an image to suit, or you can rotate an HDRI to position the sun better.

  • euv Thanks!

Yeah you are right. Lighting definitely isn't a strong point of mine. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it will be something I can look out for next time

  • Whoa! This is amazing work especially the sculpted Griffin and rocks. I love the rim light shining behind the Griffin.

    My critiques:
Mistake: If the sunlight shines behind the Griffin partially then it should shine on the rock edges as well.
