Hi everyone! hopefully someone sees this that can offer helpful advice...this is my first material study and I decided to torture myself apparently. I was attempting to recreate translucent flesh with this one and got WAAY over my head! Please help!!
I think that in this case the reference photo of a frog that you posted is your best friend. Try building a palette of colors from it. There is not enough color in your spehere and cube (look at the greens, reds and light blues in your reference). Another thing is that the edges on the frog tend to have more light on them as the denser parts of the object tend to absorb more light. Backside of the sphere and the cube is also missing - there should probably be (especially for the cube) some outline for the backside edges.
Insides of the cube - these darker parts look alright though and you should go more for this kind of feel with the sphere.
