In the "Mailbox Modeling I" video around 20:50 the term "non-planar" is used for quads that are actually planar, but concave. The correct terminology to use here is "make the concave quad convex".

When you just start doing the lower torso you smooth the area, however the brush type remains the same, how are you smoothing it? Cheers
