General feedback

With this course being part of the 'beginner' series - the lack of key cast (so you can see what shortcuts/options are being used) isn't helpful. Also, you explain how to do something but there is little explanation of why (unlike previous beginner courses). So if I ever want to rig and animate something other than this chest, I don't know what I should be doing/adding because I've not been told why you're adding certain things or why you've put them where you have and things to consider. Sorry to be critical but it's important for me to understand the theory and the 'why' things are being done rather than just following along for this one example but then being completely stuck when I try to do my own project - perhaps there are some other courses that may further my understanding?

Hi Kaminokiller, I'm sorry you are having trouble understanding.

If you have any specific questions I would be more than happy to point you in the right direction.  This course is called "Rig and Animate a Treasure Chest in Blender 2.8" which is exactly what it says on the box.

If you wanted to learn the why of animation - https://cgcookie.com/course/animation-bootcamp

If you wanted to learn more about the why of rigging - https://cgcookie.com/course/fundamentals-of-rigging

Bear in mind, they are both in the older version of Blender, an update is currently in production.

It's also part of the 'learn blender 2.8 your complete tutorial guide' workflow so as a beginner, who is pointed to do this workflow as a starting point into blender, I'd have expected all the courses to reflect this.

Yes, the individual course "does what it says on the box" but as part of the workflow, in my opinion, it didn't feel like a beginner course like the rocket or first chest ones did. Also, the difficulty of the course is set to 'beginner' so usually it would be assumed your audience know very little and would benefit from a little more explanation or advice (like the key cast for example).

Thank you for the suggestions - perhaps it would have made more sense to have those in the workflow first before starting your course.

It was just some feedback from my experience! :)

The learning flow suggests that a beginner could go straight  into this course after the treasure chest modelling course. But lacking background knowledge on animation in general, I felt completely lost for the first few lessons.

Even so, I managed to follow along so far, and after watching this particular lesson it's finally starting to click.
