Homework thread! To no one's surprise, I'm going with a sword :D
Here's my reference. It's a Katzbalger type sword. There's also some utensils(?) that go in the scabbard.
Here's what I blocked out yesterday. I'll finish the first step today and see what details I can add in. Stylizing real life stuff is tough.
Week 1 Homework Submission
It seems I will learning a lot about swords in this class. This reference looks great.
I think it will look very well in realistic as well as stylized.
I´d like to see both ;) So I am no help in making this decision.
Thanks, guys.
mmonaloren I'd like to do another realistic sword but I don't want to stray away from the classes and hand painting stylized textures is really fun :)
Thanks for the comments!
Update
I made some changes to the original design of the guard. I think larger details like this will look better with hand painting. I might add some of those smaller details with height painting. I'm on the fence about adding in cracks and damage details. Either way, I'll wrap up modeling the rest tomorrow.
@drgnclw My first thought: Kill the monster with the sword and then eat it with the handy utensils stored in the scabbard! :p
Looks really cool, the sword and utensils will turn out great :)
Quick update. Modeling is done. I'm satisfied with my stylization. It's not the best but I think it does the job. I changed the guard's design after doing a quick heigh paint test in Substance Painter. It looked good so I'll do the smaller details with height painting.
I might change the belt's model for presentation since I haven't given much thought on how to present it. Hope that's alright.
@drgnclw This project get's better and better every time I check back! Love what I'm seeing.
Is it ready for grading? Only thing missing is an "officially" declared homework submission post like this one. When I grade I look specifically for the bold title at the top of the reply "Homework Submission Week 1".
Alternatively you can update your thread's description with this label above your final week 1 image, like this thread.
Either way I assume a student is still working until officially declaring the submission in one of these ways. So I'll check back later today to see if this is 100% final :)
