A few newbie questions puzzling me.

Hello, all! I recently studied CG Art and some moments make me guess.

First, the different versions of Blender in the lessons and relevant at the moment (I use 2.80) are in themselves confusing. It didn’t have much effect on the training until I started sculpting.

For example, how to quickly switch to a Smooth Brush as Kent Trammell does in his lessons? That is, I use the Inflate Brush and Shift + Inflate Brush when smoothing is needed, but is this correct? If so, why need a Smooth Brush?

The second point is addons. Of all the teachers use, I remember only f2 and images. Then I see how in one lesson when changing the size of the brush next to it a numerical value is indicated and I understand that this is probably some kind of switch or addon, but I don’t know where to find it. Maybe there is some link to the list of such usefull add-ons?

And in the end, I’m doing the right thing trying first to learn everything in Learning Flows (I don’t even know how long it will take), and then move on to current things. I mean, am I losing knowledge, ignoring current courses in the hope of gaining fundamental knowledge?

Thanks in advance for your advice and help, and forgive my English.

    Hi Michael,

First, courses are being updated to 2.80, but that takes time of course (especially considering that the 2.80 RC1 is only about one week old!).

When sculpting, yes, you can quickly change to the Smooth Brush by holding Shift. No matter what brush you are using.

So why have a Smooth brush then? Because if you need to do a lot of smoothing, it is not practical to keep holding the Shift key pressed. Also if you want to change some of the brush settings, you can't do that when holding Shift.

As to your second point: they were probably changing the strength of the brush (Shift+F), not the size (F).

I think you should definitely cover the basics first (the fundamental knowledge), you are not losing knowledge that way. But there is also no harm in watching current courses.

I can highly recommend joining Kent Trammel's upcoming Class (starting July 30th):

Four weeks for any skill level!

    Hope this information was helpful.
