Shrinkwrap on Plane- Hard Surface Modeling

Collaborations

Hello, I recently joined CGCookie after giving up on YouTube tutorials and I have so say THIS is soo much better. anyway, I started the hard surface modeling course and started to do well.

until..

I started having this issue and I am mostly curious as if this was normal as the shrink wrap is not exactly perfect. As I was doing the Hard Surface modeling exercise and when I got to the lower tail fin, the end point seemed to be going out too far back when I removed it from the vertex group. This then caused this unpleasant looking lump to appear as I felt It was not conforming properly to the mesh scaling also The edge slide was acting weird as well just as the scaling.

I know after I apply the modifier it will look okay but as someone that is trying to learn the ins and out I wanted to be sure I was not making some kind of mistake or was this just how kooky shrink wrap is.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You should probably apply the shrinkwrap modifier and add it again. When you're using the shrinkwrap modifier, the real geometry can be somewhere completely else than the shrinkwrapped geometry, so it makes sense that your problem occurs. When you use this method, the real geometry is much closer to the shrinkwrapped one.

    I hope this helps!

The instructor has  the same problem with the edge loop at the end.  As for the tail fin, you can just move it freely once you remove it from the vertex group.

williamatics Thank you both! I eventally figured out after finishing the windshield that the funkyness was coming from having the shrink wrap after the subserf modifiers. Guess I was not paying as much attention to detail as I thought. It is good knowing that I got rapid responses from the community. I was skeptical about paying so much for a subscription to this site but think I am going to enjoy my learning experince. It is worth every penny.

wwinstar45 Indeed it is.  I do not regret getting a subscription.

I am taking that course too.
