Hello, I'm new to Blender and have found this entire lesson incredibly difficult to follow. A lot of the options mentioned are different in 2.8, Blender Render doesn't even exist anymore. I have Eevee, Cycles and Workbench. I tried baking a Normal map with Susanne using Cycles and I get the error "No Active Image Found" even tough I followed every step and made an image named bake like the instructions say.
Also the instructor is going really fast like he's explaining this to people that already know what baking is. I know about baking and normal maps but for a fundamental lesson a lot of terminology is being thrown around really fast without any explanation. I think the instructor is very knowledgeable but the most important quality of a teacher is to be able to guide the student into understanding the what, why and how not just dump a bunch of info as fast as possible. I guess what I'm trying to say is this just doesn't feel like a fundamentals tutorial for new people and being in an older version of Blender makes it a lot worse.
I'm sorry to say but I'm completely lost, I can't follow and already spent 2 days on this "1 hour" tutorial :(
Hey zeriel , thanks for writing this up! Indeed, this lesson is intended for 2.7 and not 2.8. We'll be replacing this course with an updated one once 2.8 is released. We'll also be more mindful of pacing, so we don't rush through things too fast.
For baking in Cycles, the active image is the one that's selected in the node editor, so be sure that your image texture is in the material and is the selected one.
I wouldn't worry about this tutorial if you're set on using 2.8 - feel free to skip it. I hope that you did learn some things along the way and that the frustration wasn't wasted. If you have any other questions or find roadblocks in the course, don't hesitate to @ tag me in a question or to ask in the Community where everyone can chime in with thoughts / encouragement.
P.S. We're changing the questions system soon so that it doesn't take so long for someone other than the author to find unanswered questions like this. More on that soon.
Yup same here, hopefully the updates 2.8 version comes quickly after release (next week, unless it's out but I can't find it)
I have to agree, the instructor is going to fast, It's not uncommon for me to pause the video but during this I had to rewind way to often.
