I am still getting confused when I select all of my bones and hit 'i' and receive the error msg "No suitable context for active keying set. It seems like it just works sometimes.

    'Available' = only the channels that already have keyframes (selected bones)

    You don't have any keyframes on the controls you have selected in the image.
