For some reason, whenever I press the "bake" button, no matter what image I've loaded up or what mode I'm in, Blender seems to pick an image at random to bake to. I finally got C_colour to bake to the C_colour image I'd created, but now it keeps trying to bake S_colour to C_colour. Is there some obvious step I'm missing here?

If you're baking with the "Blender Render" engine, Blender will bake to whatever image you've assigned to the object's UV's. So if you successfully baked C_colour then you'd need to assign your desired S_colour texture to the objects UV's for baking. Otherwise it will overwrite the C_colour texture.

If you're baking with Cycles, Blender bakes to whatever image texture node is selected in the Node Editor (material mode).

OK, thanks! I realize now you mentioned this a bunch of times in this series. Sorry, not sure how I missed that! >.<
