Hey Norman!
If you've checked out the video on making armatures and making an armature stand (chapter 3 of the "Sculpting Basics" course), then you will see that I use a threaded rod that is screwed into a small nut on the armature. That allows you to loosen the threaded rod that connects your armature to the armature stand, carefully remove it, and cover the hole left by the rod with clay and texturize it if needed.
If you intend to cut your sculpture apart, leave the rod in until you've cut off all the parts (arms, legs or head etc.), before removing the rod from the torso or wherever you have placed it. Without that you will have to handle the complete sculpture the whole time and you may damage it in the process.
