my character using luna rig

hi wayne

I made my character using luna schematics and following along with you. I excluded using tweaks bones as this is suppose to be hard surface character.

some bones are not moving at all, If you could please tell me what am I doing wrong here?

p.s.

don't bother with weight painting trying to fix it as it is not my focus, I just want to know the issue here.

and thanks for your time and effort

    Hi Samy,

Spikey not-Wayne here. I was just wondering, when you say some bones are not moving, whichBones do you mean, because all seem to be moving (in Pose Mode), apart from the ones, whose Transforms you have locked. I might be missing something here.

    Hi Samy,

Can you define "not moving" for me:

forgive me if I phrased that wrong.

they are moving but the mesh is not deforming when they do

in other way the attached bones to these bones aren't reacting when they move

I'll take a look into this a bit later today Samy.
I've loving all the hard work you are putting in.

Ok I've made a video but it doesn't solve the issues.  It does, however, present you with a way forward.

    Here's a summary.

    - Get the density of the Mesh under control (if possible)
    - the try the Double Tandem Attack approach.

What the heck am I talking about?
It's something I invented just for you.

Follow along with Luna exactly.  And do the same steps on the Luna model
Then once you get it working - then apply the same steps to Mesh 17 guy (that's a name I also invented for him)

You might be thinking that this is the long way of doing it - but it's actually a shortcut.
You are learning and then applying that sooner than if you did the whole character then trying to apply EVERYTHING after the fact.

The key thing is that you do it twice.  The first time is WYSIWYG
Then the second time is the adjustments for your character.

And remember - post it as an exercise if you get stuck, or if you want me to check your work.
In fact, I think that is a good way forward for you.
Send me your WIPs as you go.
(it will be easier if you post them as submissions)

I'm talking both your Luna, and your Mesh 17.

Slow is smooth, and Smooth is fast.
    Let's do this.

(I'll admit that I did it after the Luna rig... but I actually wound up doing this 3x... Once for Luna, once for my Self Portrait Character, and once for my Ruby Vicksyn character and along the way, figured out some things on the later rigs that i was able to go back and fix on my Luna rig. I still haven't done the last part of the Luna rig, but I def get the knowledge from having done it :D )

the problem we are having Wayne is that this character is hard surface. Bendiness in his suit will be slim to none.

Luna on the other hand is stylized character which means that she is super bendy

I will take the double attack approach just for you man but I think we are dealing with two different approaches here

    p.s.

    balls joke is hilarious xd

Other than the stretch to, the rigging process would be more or less the same, I think. Think about the arms and the legs.. yes, they bend at the joints, but the parts between the joints don't move. Most of the bending and stretching on a "human" rig happens around these joints (if you're not using a lot of stretching).

    Samy,
Don't worry about the 'hard surface'
If it were truly hard then the character couldn't move.  it would be a a statue...in that case.
    Boom - it's done!!!! haha

Also Luna is bendy, but she doesn't have to be.
If you don't touch the tweak controls in the mid limbs - she doesn't bend.
Even realistic characters can have this to help with animation.

Double Tandem Attack Approach - Engage!!

It's going to be hard, but you can do it.
You got people on your corner.
