    Thanks :) The material I put on the fins isn't a fan of sharp edges, so it's transparent on the side. I think it's something about the shader. But it looked neat enough for a still so I kept it :D

    Oh, there's actually a lot going wrong with the Materials, but this is a Modeling Course, so that's fine. The Materials look good enough from a distance and it's a lot nicer to look at than just grey.

    I really like how the creasing in the soccer ball gives the illusion of stitching, even if it is a lighting artifact on some of the edges.

    Hard drive enclosure for the hard surface modeling tutorial. 
    Didn't have a cool font to use, so I just used one of the ones that came with Bazzite.

    Recreated one of the tall coffee mugs we have but I wasn't a fan of how the handle turned out.
    I moved stuff around but couldn't quite pull it where I wanted.

    It's a left-handed mug, obviously :D

    Technically, and mathematicians will back me up on this, this is a blender donut.

    Started learning Retopoflow the other day, but setting it aside while I get better at seeing jank in my topology. :)
    Source model is from the Retopoflow course.

    Most of this lesson I did okay, but when I found holes in the geometry I was only able to fix a couple of them and can't figure out how to see where the damage is.

    That's something I'll just have to learn though. I was able to fix another hole just by tearing apart a whole section and rebuilding it.
    Is there a way to see that polys are overlapping but not connected? They weren't visibly ripped but it sure does look like they were when subdivided.

    That'll be mostly a matter of switching to Edit Mode and looking really hard. Changing display Modes,switch between Wireframe and Solid. Between Vertex/Edge/Face Select. Moving things around. You will learn about most available tricks.

    But, in your case, I would first check the Normals. Inconsistent Normals can really mess up your Subsurf.

    Thanks :) Normals were good. Found a couple of overlapping vertexes that weren't merged. I had auto-merge on, like he mentioned in the course, but it didn't take. Even merge-by-distance didn't catch those ones. Weird since they were so close together they looked like single verts. Just one more to find and fix now.  

    edit: ah, the irony. Those verts didn't auto-merge, but the weird edge on the left is from the support loop auto-merging with the edge about half-way down. :D

    Oh well. I'll get better at catching that stuff over time.

    I never use Auto Merge.

    But I know quite a few people that do and absolutely swear by it.

    A challenge a friend gave me to learn with. Recreate the P1 Nano DAW.

    I'm no artist, so at this point I'd start asking my texture artist for details :D

    The rapier started out as a roundcube that I was messing around with.

    About 500 of the faces of the whole thing are just the roundcube guard. The pommel and handle had more faces but I optimized and got the whole model down by half.

    Trying to do a model-a-day of basic models just to get my muscle memory up to scratch and learn some tricks along the way.
