Getting Into it at 45.

Question

This is not a technical question or anything, more a little about my journey / state of mind and to see if there are others that feels the same here.

I'm 45, Software Developer, I have a good job for all accounts but I miss creativity. My goal for learning Blender is really the ability to tell stories.

I studied in Theater, Design and Computation Art ( some 3D there) and life took a turn towards software development, that's fine but now I want to make the switch to story telling and blender and animation seems like an avenue that really speaks to me.

## Fears
I first attempted this switch a little more than 1 year ago, and during a time of struggled, I asked AI to create the image I was having difficulty making, and it took a big 2 mins ... it was good, it was shattering, I quit and went back to my very comfy well paid job.

## Thoughts

I think that even if AI becomes insanely good at CGI there will be a demand for human crafted stories / work. So here I come going at it again :)

Not sure if what I'm feeling is shared but I thought I put it out there.

Yeah that's my approach, just as well I as learn Mindfulness or guitar playing or to bake bread, same way I learn 3D and Blender, just because it was healthy for the mind to keep learning and being creative. If I can work here or there because of a new found skill, then cool, if not then ok, I'm just doing stuff because stuff is cool to do. Of course I have my 8 to 5 payed job so I can do all those things as hobbies.

    agreed.

For myself I am planning switch at some point, at 45 I think I got another 15 years of work I can do in the domain, (5 years training, 15 working) bring me to 65. Hey maybe i'll live longer by doing something I love ... or maybe i'll die early from the stress of not being able to render out something ;)

I guess the idea is to have fun

LOL, Well, kids, wife, parents to take care of, Mortgage, Job responsibilities, The 40s are definitively the cash grab years. Priorities changes, you go to more funerals than weddings..

But it's definitively not bad, I think around 40 you start, at least for me, making more sense of the world and realize the impact of time, how things are interconnected and how to enjoy the moment. Making a difference and wanting to enact good changes is definitively more on my mind .... this is why I want to make a shift to telling stories.

Totally agree with Samuel, specially the going to more funerals than weddings part. But there is definitely a shift of some kind, hard to put into words. Time suddenly strikes different than it used to, and it goes hand in hand with mortality. The way I picture it is that you have a "I'm going to die" folder in your brain's hard drive, but it's inside a folder within a folder, within a folder, within a folder, within a folder, within a folder, within a folder and you barely visit it and even forget that it is there most of the time, then suddenly one day that folder sits in your brain's desktop and there it is all day and it's difficult to not see it anymore.

    Do it Samuel!

Make the thing you want to make and enjoy the making.
And don't forget - progress, not perfection.
