Hi Wayne,
Towards, the end of the course, there are few questions I am not sure where to put and hence here:
1) Are Shape Keys any use in Rigging?
2) Are there any tutorial on reusing rig on different meshes?
3) When you next update the course contains, please put some further study materials in "6 Conclusion" regarding advance topics in Rigging.
4) Topics like export to and import from Ureal Engine is interesting too.
If there is a better place to place this question, please relocate.🙂
Thank you.
Hi K-Chow.
Let's see if I can answer those questions for you.
1. Yes shape keys are used in rigging. In fact, there's a whole course about adding those to your tool belt.
https://cgcookie.com/courses/shape-add-shape-keys-to-your-rigging-toolbox-in-blender
2. There are no tutorials on reusing a rig on a different mesh.
You can reposition the bones in edit mode, and make sure you keep the right things aligned etc.
This is a skill in itself and it's what I used to do a long time ago. You will learn A LOT by doing this but it certainly isn't the most efficient way. Once you know what you're doing I would recommend learning Rigify if you want to quickly rig characters.
3. We have actual courses that cover the advanced topics. Now that you have completed the basics, why not give them a go? I warn you though, it's not for the faint of heart. This CORE course was paddling in the kiddy pool, if you tackle things like RIG, you need to be ready for the waves and sharks. I am the life guard on duty but still, you need to be ready to be dunked before I swim out there and punch the shark in the nose.
4. We focus on purely on Blender here are CG Cookie, we used to have a Unity branch but ultimately we are a Blender company. You can check out CG Dive on Youtube, Todor has a bunch of videos on exactly that.
