Not sure if this is a decent recommendation, but, I've found the "Mio_3" add-on to be a real time saver. Instead of following the steps for following active quads, the Mio_3 - 'Gridify' does the work for me. If that's a solid suggestion, then yaaaay I feel smart! If there's any drawbacks to it, then I ALWAYS welcome feedback as I'm trying to get myself to a professional level of skills and understanding. That being said, I DID follow the steps for 'follow active quads' for the first couple of unwraps as I wanted to make sure I had that technique down pat. :)
