    Hi Hillerl,

    Yes, Booleans are tricky.

You are using an Addon (which is not wrong) and I don't know what it does exactly. There might be a Setting in the Modifers Tab, that needs to be changed.

    Or moving the Cutters slightly...?

Booleans are finicky, you have to use them carefully, they tend to make a mess. Moving it around and changing the solver usually helps.

Hi. Try this. Just delete the top half of the sphere and fill the top open with F and push it down into the cube with the top part just about the surface and do the bool like he said. You should not have trouble with an overlap. I don't know if there is another reason why to add the extra geometry. But this seems to work well for me. But keep in mind I'm using Blender 5.1.0 . Things may have changed. Keep in mind this video is outdated. Also, this not a paint by number as I like to call it. Experiment and have fun, this will help you to be more creative, One person's way may not Alway's be the best way for you.

Outdated is too strong of a word I'd say, it's just that the Blender UI has changed and you can't follow one to one with what's on screen. But everything taught still works the same as it always has for 20 years. This is why it is better to use the same Blender version used in the video if you plan to follow exactly along. As you get more experience, you usually don't mind the UI changes and you can much more easily absorb the core knowledge.
