scifi_crate_back.pngFirst model from the CORE - Mesh Modeling course! For the custom modifications, I "opened" the sci-fi crate. This was pretty tricky. It involved:

  • Separating the mirror modifiers to x and y, and applying the y modifications
  • Separating the top elements from the bottom elements and the latch from the belt
  • Removing the back "latch" and filling in the belt
  • Re-connecting the "top belt" with the "lower belt" so it had continuity
  • Filling the insides (didn't do much detail here except an extra inset + extrude to keep the handle from clipping)
  • Adding a small inset for where the latch would've attached when closed

Towards the end I realized the way I modeled the latch doesn't make a ton of sense (how does it close exactly?). But I'm happy with the result!

Ooooh so awesome to see it open. Extra points for a creative touch on the exercise.
