    Hi Wayne, 

    This is not in reference to the Wrangler tutorial 

    I uploaded a 3D model because I wanted to rig it on my own. 

    When I switch to Edit mode it's showing black. Why is that?

    It's an FBX file. I tried GLB but it's still black (I don't know if that matters).

    I switched to Eevee and Cycles but no change.

      Could it be that the object is so dense, it has so many vertices, they are all moshed together so tight it feels like the mesh is black? Because the screenshot shows you are in edit mode. Zoom and and check, just in case.

      Yep, I think you are right, I just zoomed in. So how does one work with a mesh like that?

      This looks like an AI generated model. To use it for any purpose other than a static render, it will need to be retopologized.

      You can drag and drop the .fbx directly into Blenders 3d view.

      In the preferences just enable the FBX Format add-on and it should work.

      Yeah you have to retopologize it to have a clean usable mesh. In its current state is not possible to use for rigging and animation. Retopoflow is the tool for the job 100% of the times:

      You can use another program like meshlab to clean it up and auto quad it. It will still probably need some cleaning in Blender. You could also try the decimate modifier too reduce the faces.

      Yes that is correct, it was generated with AI.

      Why pick an AI model when there are loads of good free characters you can download to practice with?
      Start simple e.g. nothing with loose clothes as I would imagine that's a whole new level of pain and frustration

      Eek - yeah you don't want to rig that.
      It's going to crash your machine so hard it will take the power grid down with it.
