Yeah probably it's what Ewa did. But usually you just get pictures of the reference pf the thing you're trying to do. If it's something new, then you get concept art references. If there's none of the above, then you can do what Ewa did or model of off your imagination, which is totally not recommended. That is why sculpting is for, when you want to free flow and have that creative freedom to test things out.
