Deform still checked

Hey guys,

I inverted the selection and toggled off the deform but Deform is still checked in the lower right (although the panel is greyed out). I guess I can manually uncheck it for all the bones except the DEF but it was supposed to do that automatically. Am I missing something?

    Hi Eugene,
That panel isn't greyed out, it's just collapsed.  The greyed out section is the bendy bone stuff.

I have a feeling that didn't hold Alt when clicking the deform option?
That changes the setting on all the selected bones and not just the active one.

But not 100% which mode you disabled this option. (I can't remember they way I showed in that lesson)

    Hi Wayne,
On Mac is Command actually but it doesn't work either way. Deform is still there, I have to manually uncheck it. It's alright, I doubt I will ever have hundreds of bones to not deform.

Oh yeah there's quite a few Mac only issues.

I think the best solution for this is change the hotkey.

This is from one of our  Mac Power users (that is not me)
It to enable the 'Emulate 3 Button Mouse' checkbox and then set it to use the OS-Key.

"The workaround is actually something I enjoy very much in the end... but it might give your muscle memory some pain.

I use the OS-Key for navigating. And therefore my Alt/Opt key is free. It works well since I'm not allowed to use a mouse, so no middle mouse button for me."

    Hope that helps.

I am noticing that many hotkeys you use in your videos don't work on my Mac, many times i find ways around it but sometimes not.

I switched to OS key like you suggested, I will see how it goes.

    Thank you

Correct me if I'm wrong Wayne, but I believe Wayne uses right click select. So some of his hotkeys are different because of this. Also I'd recommend using the hotkey shift+w->Deform followed by F9->and change Type to disabled. Note: Instead of the F9 you can expand the adjust last operator box in the bottom left hand corner of the 3D Viewport. If you don't like hotkeys you can access this thru the menu: In pose mode it's Pose->Bone Settings and in edit mode it's Armature->Bone Settings.

    Yep I'm right click select.
And yes.  You can use the Shift W (Specials Menu) or just plain right click if you have the default keymap.

However, this only works in Edit mode.

But it's something I do do quite often.

Then I always bring up the redo with F9 to force it to be disabled rather than toggle.

The Alt Clicking is something that is universal in Blender.  It works for sooooo many things.  As long as it has the same name you can change all the settings at once.
Constraint settings, transforms, deleting constraints, bendy bones, visibility, and on and on.

Having a way to Alt click in Blender will speed anyone up.
It's more important than just bones.  So I say.....install Linux on you Mac. :p

Seriously though, having a workaround will be super helpful in the long run.
