I used to be a member of cgcookie. Now it seems to be invalid. I want to know how to make this pendant. I hope someone can help me.
Why not just watch a bunch of tutorials, struggle a lot, slowly begin to understand it, something clicks in your brain, now you finally start to get it, dude this is so awesome and then bask in all the glory worthy of a conqueror? You'd think all you need is someone beside you just telling you what to do, but modeling is more complex than that, it's almost like you have to re-wire your brain so you can see before hand what you have to do, and that only comes only with lots of struggle.
You've not given any context for why you want this modelled and how it'll be used. You say you're happy to pay someone but it doesn't really make sense to pay someone to give you a tutorial on this specific thing. If you need something high quality for a 2d/3d print then you're probably best just paying to commission someone to make it for you. It'll be quicker and cheaper this way.
If you do really want to pay someone (assuming you have a proper budget) to show you how to model this I'm sure you can find someone. I think there's a member on here who models the Pokemon characters that offers that sort of thing.
But if you'd like to model this as a way to learn Blender Omar's point is valid. Instead of buying a fish, teach yourself to fish. This isn't a particularly large or complicated thing to create. What do you know how to do? I look at this and see 3 main areas
The chain
The locket
The sculpted pet portraits
You will find youtube tutorials for all of the above. The pet portraits look personal / sentimental e.g. you don't want to model just any dog & cat but want the likeness on the actual locket? This will be harder to do. An alternative solution would be to get high resolution photos and try and use those as a bump/displacement map again it depends on what you're intentions are for the model.
The first thing to do is assess how much you can simplify/stylise the model and if you could do it if that's the case. If you don't know how do it as a low poly model like shown below then either just commission someone or you're better off starting on something more basic
Thank you all for your suggestions and criticism. I haven’t used Blender for several months, and this is a request from a friend whom I’m trying to help. The deadline is approaching, and my friend is an iPad nomad user, which makes it difficult for them to complete this kind of modeling.
With the limited time available, I thought of my former school, CG Cookie, and hoped to get it done there. Before asking, I did try working on it myself and watched quite a few tutorials, but my results weren’t good enough.
Well usually what you find here is lots of people learning Blender, so not a good place for requesting commissions. There's been posts requesting job, and they don't usually work, because here's everyone is a student. You may get lucky on Discords channels? CG Cookie has one, I bet lots of other Blender YouTube channels as well.
There's a deadline but for what? Is this a school / uni project or what? What does your friend actually want to use it for?
You want to commission someone to make this for you. Without asking around I'm not sure how much something like this might cost. In the UK my guess is you'd need to have a minimum budget of £1000 and possibly a lot more depending on the level of fidelity and final use e.g. if it's going to be used commercially.
