Problem Insetting a Face

At time mark 8:03 we extruded an edge from the cube and then are asked to inset a face in said extrusion. After I extrude the edge I try to perform the inset faces by pushing I but I do not get the same result. Also when going back to extruding other faces I lose the yellow ring. Any ideas as to what is going on? I am also using version 5.0.1. that may be the problem.

Thanks

Ok, I messed around some more and have additional information. Pressing I still performs the Inset Faces tool however I still lose that circle and dot thing and pressing B while performing the inset face command still does not achieve the same effect as in the video.

Hello Josh. I'm guessing by the circle and dot and yellow ring you mean the tool itself? I'm not sure but the tool visualization goes away for the moment the tool is in action, as soon as the action is confirmed, the tool visualizer comes back.

When it comes to pressing B, where your muse pointer is matters. Perhaps you have it too close to the face. Try getting your mouse pointer a bit farther away. And remember, when you use a tool and then you want to use another, for example you use E to Extrude and then I for inset, you have to commit and accept the use of the extrusion first. So you extrude and click or enter so the extrusion takes effect, then you use I for inseting.

Hey, thanks for replying. I am not sure what happened to the circle and dot earlier (on the tool itself) but it is working now but I still cannot get the b (boundary) to work whether I place the mouse cursor close or farther from the actual face of the extrusion. I can see it enabled in the tool tip though, it just doesn't seem to do anything. Not a hug deal just wanted to bring it up in case someone had an easy answer.

Ok, got it to work. For some reason one of the faces I extruded just doesn't seem to work with it. I extruded other faces and tried it and it worked fine but one of them is bugged out or something. Sorry for wasting your time.

    Hi Josh ZZimbibu ,

next time, please add one or more screenshots. That usually helps figuring out what you did wrong.

(When I have to guess, from your description, it's either, that you have inadvertently created double Vertices, or that you simply don't know what Boundary is exactly.)

Asking questions is never a waste of time! Like Martin says, if you provide some screenshots of what you're having problems with, it helps others to see and diagnose what's happening. That's one of the great things about the Blender community in general and the CG Cookie community in particular is you're always able to find people willing to help!
