blender will not open?

Question

hello, my pc recently did an update. Now blender wont open. although i'm not sure if the update is the reason. I have tried to clear the pc cache, i've tried rolling back the update, the update just installs its self once it restarts. I have removed blender and installed again. I'm not too sure what else to do.

once  I open the app, it instantly crashes. if on some chance it does open. it will crash before i even try to load something. BUT it will open on another user. any tips would help. thank you.

I've never had that happen before. I guess maybe you could use a different Blender version in the mean time? Perhaps when an update will come around that fixes the issue no too far in the distant future.

    Hi ttatum1 ,

Hard to tell, I also have never heard of this problem, but what Operating System are you using? I am guessing it's Windows, by the way you write.

If another User can Open Blender and You can't, it must have something to do with Administrator rights  (still assuming You are on a Windows System. Other Operating Systems have something similar, but under a different name).

Another thing to consider, is, where you Downloaded Blender from (Blender.org, through Steam,...).

This is something, that's probably not easy to solve from a distance (but we can try).

So I got blender from blender.org I’ve never had any issues until this point, and it doesn’t matter what version I use it won’t open. I’m using 4.4 but only because I thought 3.7 was having issues. And yes I’m using windows10 I’ve also tried running it as administrator and it still won’t open. I haven’t found any topics related to this so I’m like going insane trying to find a fix. But I think I’ll end up just moving files to a hard drive and rebooting my pc.

Rebooting your PC meaning uninstalling and installing Windows again? That's the nuclear option that from time to time it's even a good thing to do. Did it work?

First you will need to upgrade to 4.5 or use 5.0. you could also downgrade to 4.2. Second,  run blender and after it crashes, in the blender program directory where the exe is there should be a crash.log or crash.txt. third, go to following link which will tell you how to report a bug/crash.

This response is a bit late so hopefully you have already found a solution to your issue. However, just in case, I have a suggestion based on recent experience.

Since you mentioned that Blender will open on another user account but not yours it sounds like a corrupted user account. Google/DDG "repair corrupted user account" for your version of Windows (Windows 11 is apparently notorious for this) for many methods of fixing this issue.

In my case it took me nearly two days of troubleshooting and working my way through solutions before finding one that worked. Fortunately, I didn't have to resort to a new install but I was very close. What worked for me was editing the registry as described on this website but hopefully one of the less destructive methods could work for you. Note: Definitely try suggestions from more official sites first - I was getting pretty desperate when I got to the above linked site.
