[CORE modelling WIP] kitchen modeling practice

Polybooks

Hi, I am a beginner at modeling. This is my first post on this community so correct me if i am not using the tags right... ANYWAYS! This is the reference i want to re create:

...

this is my progress right now:

I think I am happy with the proportions right now... I wanted to block out the full scene but was tempted to work on the main table from the reference. Hence this:

and this:

FIRSTLY, should i block out the entire scene first? Secondly... after applying the mirror mod on the frame, the highlighted vertices should become edge loops... but when i try to delete it using {X + Edge loops} nothing happens... i tried to disolve edges that too didnt work.

One more thing... for the frame i started with a plane. modeled a bit and used solidify to fill it out. It wasnt like i hoped it would work. It turned out more like this:

So i had to use merge {M + last} them at the centre point and ended up doing the same for every. single. vert. in. that. line.

I have yet to model the side table. Should I approach it differently? maybe starting with a cube? But it looks like the frame/legs of that table are round... so i go for a 8 sided cylinder instead?

...

anyways... modeling is hard

Modeling is hard but super super rewarding. Same with any difficult thing you learn, if you master it, that puts you far ahead of everyone that opted for staying in the couch watching Netflix all day. You're doing good with your modeling 🤙🏼

    Cool project, very ambitious👍🏻

It's best practice to first blockout the entire Scene. But it's not compulsory.

The Mirror problem, is, because these Selected Vertices form Faces, which will be interior Faces, when you Apply the Modifier. You can Delete them before Appllying the Modifier, or after Applying:  Select them, X > Delete Faces, followed by X > Dissolve Edges, or X > Delete Edge Loops.

I'd indeed use Cylinders for that side table.D
