Selecting multiple vertices in orthographic View not working

Switch modes. I use x-ray(Alt+Z). Many people use wireframe(Shift+Z). Worse case.
1. Select first one
2. press h
3. Shift+select next
4. repeat 2 and 3 until all are selected
5. press alt+H to unhide. 

Thanks for the support. I was in wireframe view without X-ray selected. Now that it is, When I'm selecting the top vertex with box select its selecting both. Thanks both!
