I would like to use the subdivide modifier to subdivide the cube. But if I use a Simple mode (not a Catmull-Clark mode), it doesn't work unless I apply a modifier. Is it possible to use a subdivision modifier in a Simple mode without applying it?

    Hi Daniel,

Don't know what you're doing wrong, because that works out of the box:

Make sure the order of the Modifiers is correct!

Hello Daniel. When you say it doesn't work, what doesn't work? Depends on what you're trying to accomplish with that. Simple is working, it is adding geometry, you just don't see it and it is not smoothing or rounding the cube, but the extra geometry is there. If you add a SubD to the cube and then a simple deform, you'll see the cube twist with enough geometry. If then you turn the SubD on and off, you'll see the cube go from nice resolution twisting to very low res twisting.

Ok, my bad; it does work. What confused me is that I can't see subdivisions in edit mode. In the picture: a cube in edit mode with a subdivision modifier in simple mode with 4 subdivisions; subdivisions are not shown on the screen.

You can see it in wire frame mode or make it visible if you turn on "on cage", the currently greyed out button next to the three blue ones in the modifier.
Plus you'll need to turn off "optimal display".
