Floral Wallpaper?

So I'm working on the exercise and I kind of hate the way the floral wallpaper covers 4/5 of the wall. I was going to just deal with it and light the scene but I noticed that in the video the "final" render also doesn't include the wallpaper at all and goes for a solid wall instead.

I'm torn between lighting the scene as handed to me (which would be my job as a lighting designer) or to tweak the design so it's solid wallpaper or solid plaster. Can I ask was the split a design choice or is it a mistake in the file? I don't really get it but I'm willing to work with it if it's an intentional look.

Thanks. :)

The floral pattern does appear in some of the shots of the render. As for the single plaster panel I don't know, but it appears deliberate since the plaster is a second slot and those faces had to be assigned to the plaster material. Each version(all floral, Mixed, and solid) has different challenges when it comes to lighting with the mix being the most difficult in my opinion. It feels like there was going to be a door or hallway there, but I'm just guessing.

    Thanks for the response.

Yeah I agree that it seems deliberate. I tried swapping the texture for that section and the UVs are VERY compressed in that area, making it not line up with the rest of the wall.

I noticed that like you said the floral pattern is in the earlier shots, it's just not in the final so I wasn't sure why. There's even one version where it does go all the way across and doesn't look scrunched up, so your guess is as good as mine.

For now I think I'm going to take a look at the piece again later or tomorrow and look up some interior studies and go from there.

You can totally change stuff out and get creative. Teachers at CG Cookie encourage such thing, it's better to go about your own creation than to make an exact copy of what's on screen.

The choice for the 4/5 print was definitely intentional. I liked it that way and it's something you could commonly see in some variation in my home country, so maybe that's why it might be weird to others.

I did also remove it for some renders, as I wanted those to look a bit more simple and less 'busy', for marketing purposes.

Either way you're 100% free to do whatever. You can even change the camera angle, add models etc. I don't really care as long as you get creativity and happiness from the process! Overall I just want to see that you understand lighting in the submission :-)
