Key-Map Spacebar press as Confirm (same as using Enter key)

Question

Using Industry Compatible key-mapping. I come from Rhino3D, so it would be helpful if I could use <spacebar> or <Enter> interchangeably.

Also, is there a key for "repeat" action? Again, in Rhino, it's either spacebar or enter key.

"Shift + R" is the shortcut to repeat the last active action.

Thanks SFE-Viz. Any idea regarding the <spacebar> mapping to confirm as if it's the <enter> key? Thanks

No, sorry. I guess you could go through the preferences -> keymap and search for the settings you're looking for, if it's a specific function you want them to have. You can search by key and see what they're mapped to.
Personally I only use space for search and enter for confirming value entries.

    Hi Alan,

I don't think you can change that in your Preferences; ENTER is sort of a 'special key', and confirm is not explicitly mapped to any key. If it were possible, you'd have to go to everything that uses ENTER to confirm and Add a copy, that uses Spacebar to confirm. That would not be worth the trouble (and again, i don't think it is even possible) in my opinion.

If you come from Rhino, I'd suggest to get used to Blender's Keymap and use that.

If you switch between the two, that may or may not be ideal.

You might be able to remap your Spacebar to do what ENTER does in your OS and hopefully be able to turn that behavior on, only when using Blender. It'll depend on your OS, how easy that is to do (if at all possible).

I used 3DS Max for a year and I spent so much time trying to configure all the hotkeys so that it resembles Blender more, since I was used to Blender, that in the end it was easier to just get used to Max's hotkeys. I use other software's interchangeably and the mind gets used to willingly flip the muscle memory depending on the software you're using. So all that to say that yeah, it's better to just give it some time to get use to Blender's hotkeys instead of customizing it all.

repeat last is G in industry compatible. When you say use space as confirm in what area? With industry compatible most things are done using a gizmo. In many cases the Standard Modal Map is used in which case you just have to expand that then click add new button. Then click on the key map area(Where the A is on the right side) and press spacebar. Then expand it and change the blank dropdown button to apply. Of course there are many areas of Blender and key map changes depending on context and editor/region the mouse is over.

    Thanks all.

Yes, I’m going to be going back amd forth between Blender and Rhino, plus other softwares.

Best advice seems I would have to go in and individually add the Spacebar modally, which is not worth doing for my scenario.

Really appreciate the quick and helpful feedback! Saved me a bunch of time I would have soent researching.

    Have a great day, all!
