What setting would you use for supports on a wireframe model?
Great question:
(A) If oriented correctly the wireframe can support quite a bit of itself so I try to rotate it until the wires are going diagnol to create an angle that works on my printers. 45 degree overhang works great for me so this would be an example:
(B) Select this brush icon and paint where you want the supports:
In my example I painted them here:
(C) Now you can use any kind of support you want, grid, organic, etc. Off to the left change the supports to "enforcers only" this will use the painted on data to add supports:
and now this is what mine looks like. There are some errors because I forgot to make it manifold but the explanation still works:
On a final note you will need to be careful because not all wireframes are printable. If the wires are too thin they might snap and if they are too complex they will be hard to supports. You might need to do some trial and error but this is how I would approach printing something like Susanne. What that being said, I made a lot of vases with wire firsts and none of them even needed supports and the wireframe went up at a 45 degree angle and printed as it stood.
Let me know if this works for you or if you have any more questions.
