Blender 4.2 keeps crashing

Question

Hello I've recently updated Blender 4.0 to 4.2 and now it keeps crashing on my Mac every time I try to open up the application. Why is that?

    What are you computer specs?
Compare them to the Blender Requirements.
I believe macOS 11.2 is the minimum required version since Blender v4.1

Is your graphics driver up to date? I would update it once. If not, I would say uninstall Blender, download it again and install it. Sometimes things can go wrong during an update process.

Yeah as the others have said, update your operating system, update your graphic's card drivers, re-download Blender, update anything that needs an update and things should go smoothly. Hopefully.

    Hello everyone,
My laptop MacBook Pro M2 MAX 2023 has been updated to MacOS Sequioa 15.0 earlier today. So my graphic card with the laptop should've automatically been updated as well. I've tried uninstalling Blender 4.2 and installing again. I am still having the same issue. Blender keeps quitting unexpectedly. I have enough free storage on my disk hard drive and external hard drive. I've tried updating everything and throwing away unnecessary files/applications.

Update: I downloaded and installed Blender 4.1.1 and it opens up without any issue. Im not sure what the issue is for 4.2

    Bug issues?

  • Omar Domenech replied

Releases with huge updates tend to be a while before they become stable and bug free. So don't worry, it's business as usual.

  • Adrian Bellworthy replied

This is not business as usual! It shouldn't be happening to a stable release of Blender.
The M2 MAX also shouldn't be a problem.
When uninstalling software often some files are left behind, uninstall all versions of Blender again and then navigate to the file location where Blender was removed from and manually delete anything left behind. Now try installing Blender 4.2 and see if it works.

If it still fails, there maybe a hardware issue, do you have any issues with other apps? Closing or crashing unexpectedly or randomly?
Other than that you could reach out to Blender support in case there is a bug or unsupported hardware issue we are not aware of.
