I have just joined the community and started to watch the tutorials. Is there some sort of outline or overview of how long the tutorials and classes are. I would like to set up a schedule for myself and break them down on my calendar. That will help me with setting my goals.
I'm not sure there is, but I'm not totally sure though. Lessons do have the time next to the title. It's cumbersome but a bit of adding the time can give you an estimate when you're starting a course. But I'd say on average courses tend to run 4, 5 or 6 hours long? It varies with courses being much longer and other's shorter, but on average. Perhaps displaying the total time would be a nice feature to have and can be easily updated on the website. Adrian will probably know better.
I would suggest using the lesson time as is, schedule lessons (or chapters) on your calendar not the whole course. A full course could take several hours just to watch.
To effectively learn from a lesson/course, you will need to pause the video and practice what is being taught.
Try not to over schedule, schedule more time than the lesson indicates, I would go as far as doubling the lesson length.
If you have time to spare, use it to practice, don't get ahead of yourself. It's easy to say "I completed my schedule and I have half hour to spare, I'll watch another lesson or two", It is better to use that time to practice, than rush through another two lessons.
Thanks Omar. I was working my way through the intro courses, but they have 'free' where the time stamp would normally go. But now I know where to look for future courses.
And thanks Adrian for the advice. I've already found myself watching the videos more than once. So I'm definitly leaving more room in my schedule for learning and absorbing the content. The manager in my brain always tries to organize things a little too much. LOL Gotta leave room for the learning process.
You're right about watching the videos through more than once. What also works for me is to watch the whole course through once (not in a single sitting, that's wild), and then go back to the beginning and follow along with each video - that way I am at least familiar with what is being discussed and shown. You might already do it this way too, but if not I'd suggest giving it a try! Or atleast watch a whole chapter through and then go back and follow along!
When I first started, I would pause the video and follow each and every step while watching for the first time (and not watch them a second time) and I actually found I wasn't remembering anywhere near enough.
