Blender laptop?

Hi, a very technical question: can anybody please advice what laptop is very good for Blender..? I'm thinking of a msi laptop 16 inch with a rtx 4090... is that a good choice..? Thanks!

Choosing a laptop is a personal choice, in that it depends on your budget. Most people also have a preferred manufacturer or OS, and even style can sway a decision.
When looking into buying a laptop for use with Blender primarily, check out the Blender requirements page, and base your choice on the best recommendations within your price range.
Don't choose a laptop with more memory if the GPU doesn't meet the recommendations, go for a balance in each of the recommended areas with your budget rather than the best of one and inferior of another.

    Happy Laptop Blending!

if you ask me personally, it's always a question of usage. the other question i would have is, does it have to be a laptop? You could upgrade/expand a tower pc or replace components if necessary. You can also cool such a PC better, which I see as a big disadvantage with a laptop, but ultimately it's a question of usage.
If you want to render 3D models from time to time, you certainly won't go wrong with it. For longer animations with complex scenes, the laptop may reach its limits.
I also prefer a larger screen. At 16 inches, it wouldn't be for me.

If you also store material such as Libarys, HDRI etc. on your PC, you will quickly run into problems with your hard disk storage. Laptops, on the other hand, are always more expensive

I just always say the short version. Buy the most powerful computer your budget allows you to and you're set. The truth is simple, the more powerful your computer, the better for it is for 3D.

Ok, thanks for all your great advice Adrian, Loe and Omar!! Idd I think a pc is the est option, considering the price and the more power/performance. Still I'm thinking of being more mobile, even in my home. I'll look into it further, thanks!

    Hi Marcel,

Although you can work in Blender on a Laptop, I certainly wouldn't recommend it for Rendering!

And I have a Desktop with an RTX4090 and a Laptop with an RTX4090...those are not at all the same, performance-wise, they just have the same price tag!!!

Hello Martin, ok ... good to know. Because I just recently found out the difference between rtx desktop and laptop. But I now have a pc with radeon rx 480 series, so I think almost any (new) laptop will be there than that... :) So my investigation is wether or not I can switch to a laptop that will both replace my 'old' desktop pc ánd will be used for mobility (at home ánd for travelling). But it's not an easy choice... I already returned a macbook pro max m3...

And what kind of laptop do you use with the rtx 4090 Martin? And do you like it, in what way do you use it? I'm planning to do more modeling, sculpting, grease pencil and animation :) Will the rtx 4090 laptop perform well on those tasks? Thanks!

    Hey Marcel,

I wouldn't use a laptop with an RTX 4090 for Blender, because the GPU is mostly good for Rendering and that (Rendering) is better left to Desktops (or a Render Farm) anyway (Rendering will probably reduce the lifetime of your Laptop a lot). If you want to use Blender mobile, I'd recommend a Laptop with a cheaper GPU.

Me, I use my Desktop (Linux) for Blender and my Laptop (Windows) mostly just for gaming (especially VR, which is still not really do-able on Linux, at least not with my headsets).

AArtmhdesign I use a Rog Strix laptop with a RTX 3090 for the bulk of my modeling, and its great, but I use my desktop with a RTX 2070 Super for rendering. I use my laptop for the bulk of my work because I haul it back and forth with me to work (I don't work in the industry). But my desktop can render in half the time my laptop can. So I save the heavy jobs for my desktop. That doesn't mean you cant do it all on your laptop, but is just going to take more time especially when it comes to animations or heavy scenes.

I would suggest a desktop instead, but a laptop can get the job done.
