Are you by any chance using a more modern Blender Version, than in the Course?
Because nowadays, the Emission Strength is 0 by default, so you'd have to change that to 1.
Otherwise, you'll have to provide a bit more information, with (a) screenshot(s) if possible.

maybe the below helps:
The animation seemed not to play for me either whilst using Blender 4.0.2 - The issue was that by default the node was set to only be using 1x frame i.e. only displaying the 1st frame of the animation. Changing this to a higher value to let all frames play solved it for me (+ changing the Emission Strength to > 0, as mentioned by Martin above).
