Trouble with Parenting

I am constantly losing the Parent relation with the turning parts of the gun.  See Picture.  I noticed a few times and reset it but now I think it happens right after I parent the "recoil" with the "body" bone.  It's a bit confusing, could be something to do with Object Mode parent vs Edit Mode parent vs Pose Mode parent.  This has them all.  What to do?https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/nekdax191oko30884oqx0/Trouble-Losing-Parent-on-Mesh.png?rlkey=spye6tb85olk1sgec12ygdput&st=8oszwkud&dl=0

    Hey Wrong Wright,

It's hard to know what you are doing from an image.
    Check your parenting,
Root is the parent of Base,
Base is the parent of Body,
Body is the parent of Recoil.

In the lesson Wayne does accidentally parent the Body (child) to the Root (parent) and corrects it later, also switch the rotation from Quaternion to XYZ Euler.
You may also need to reset the rotation on the base first.

I'm a little unsure what you mean by "reset" it.

I have a feeling that the parenting is creating a dependency cycle.
Check the parenting as Adrian has suggested.

will see if I can sort this out then, I swear I am methodically going step by step.  Maybe I sneezed or something.  By "reset", typo graphic, think I was talking about redoing.  I'll start from beginning again.  I am writing this down as I go, so at least it's quicker to mess something up.  ha!

Still having the issue. The first time I got as far as adding the recoil to the body. (Body is the parent of Recoil.) and then the issues.  As it stands right now, I only get as far as adding the body to the base.  Then the base breaks, will watch the video and you'll see what I'm talking about if I'm not making sense.

Sorry for the problem but I am baffled.

Can you post your file to your DropBox, Wrongy?
It will be easier to dig around and then find the issue that way.

Okay, I think I see what's happening. Correct me if I'm wrong! It seems you are expecting the body to rotate when you rotate with Turret_base_GEO?

If this is the case, you have nothing to be concerned about. As far as I can tell you have everything set up correctly. The rotation will be set up later in the demo using constraints. Just gotta trust the process for now!

@Coyo, you are correct in knowing what I am expecting to happen.  This was the first parent relation in the process and then two parent relationships later, it breaks the first one.  @Wayne I will post it to dropbox.

Heya, if it helps any I've uploaded a video of my finalized project where I break out the different pieces. Also, I went to look at the file you uploaded and it appears to be a blend1 rather than a blend file (I know, confusing, right?)

    coyohti ,

There is a little trick...just rename the file from xyz.blend1 to xyz.blend and you can open it normally.

    HI Wrongy,
I'm not sure exactly what you are having problems with.  In the file I can just see 3 bones.  (Root, Root.001 and Root.002)
It looks like you are at an early stage of following along with the tutorial.

I would suggest that you try to make it all the way through, and then reassess if you're having issues.

Trust the process - follow along as best you can and if you make any mistakes at the end, we can diagnose at which point it went wrong.  (or Wrong Wright if you will)
At this stage it's almost the blank starting file.

    Keep going!  You got this.
(and if you don't got this - we got you....so technically there's no way you don't got this!)

I finally made it all the way though. Thanks to help of all the buds at CGCookie. Got this thick head to open slightly and shine some rays of brilliance in my dark, dusty brain. Thank you.
