This tutorial was made with 2.79, when the default was Right Click Select.
since 2.80, Blender uses Left Click Select as default.
If you are using LCS, then that shortcut becomes CTRL+RMB.
And just in case because sometime it happens, be sure you are in edit mode with you are trying that.
