Gun Handle Fast Forward

On video "Blocking the Remaining Parts" starting at 4:35 He stretches the handle inward.  Then afterwards I have two questions:

1) Then he? fills the object? I can't tell exactly how he closes the object here.
2) After whatever he does in question 1) he then does something. I can't quite tell what is taking place. and then extrudes Inwards I believe? Hard for me to tell.

Clarity on these two would be great :) Thanks all!

    Hey Jonathan  @BirdOfWar

Ad 1. At 4:35 he extrudes in the X-Axis and because of the Mirror Modifier having Clipping enabled it 'snaps together' at the middle.

Ad 2. After that, he selects the upper Faces and uses I(nset) followed by an E(xtrude in the) Y(-Axis).

    Does this help?

    Hey Martin!

I believe that helps a lot! Have some things to take care of will try these suggestions in a bit. Thank you :)

    Yes, just as Martin says.

"E" to extrude and constrains the X axis. Then "I" to inset the faces. Then he extrudes back again.

He seems to only to the i (offset) on the faces but it does not distribute evenly. How do you achieve this with i offset and face select?

I attempted to do the vertices only but that didn't work

Hey Jonathan, it looks like that top edge is part of a boundary loop (next to empty space), so try pressing B during the inset to toggle off insetting the boundary as well.

Hey Jonathan, That did the trick. I was wondering how you did that. :) Thanks so much!
