    I have version 2.69 and I cannot find the left vertical tabs that are being shown in the video. Can someone tell me how I can see/find them?

      You'll need to upgrade to a more current revision (as of this minute, the release is at 2.75). You can get the update at www.blender.org - and there are instructions for making it work for your OS. HTH!
