Homework Submission - Week 1 - Porch Stairs
Hey @theluthier , here´s my blockout for the stairs for week one :)
Well done 👍! And tagging @theluthier for the homework submission week 1 😀!
Always thinking of how people will be using the object. Nicely done @fide . Is this going to be hewn stone or cement?
@blanchs mhmm... I don´t know yet. It looks like cement to me in the reference image, so I´d probably go for that look
Great work @fide ! It is amazing how all of the pieces of this project are coming together so well.
Thank you @ullrey. Yeah, it´s awesome to see the progress from everyone. I can´t wait to see it all brought together :D
Perfect blockout @fide! It's an ideal base to add sculpting accents. Full points from me this week 👍
I see the question about hewn stone vs cement. harbinger_ua is the best person to answer this definitively, but I'd go with hewn stone if it were me. Mostly because that seems to fit the suggested olde time period more than cement imo. Also because it would be more fun to sculpt! Cement is so plain
Great job @fide And Kent is right, it's supposed to be made of stone blocks.
Thank you very much @theluthier and harbinger_ua ! :)
Alright, then I´ll make it out of stone blocks. Thanks for the clarification
My sculpt process so far.
I didn´t manage to finish it today. I hope I´ll be done by tomorrow :)
Homework Submission - Week 2 Sculpt -Porch Stairs
@theluthier I don´t need feedback
Hey @fide I really like the texture. My only real feedback is that the The edges could be a little more sharp as in the reference but otherwise a solid sculpt!
With Lampel on the time I'm finding more time to offer feedback to everyone. Thanks for offering to give that up 🙏
Your sculpture turned out great! I agree with Shawn that some additional sharpness to the stone's carve could benefit the rocky-feel:
The scrape brush is especially effective for these sharp, scalloped shapes. Additionally scraping up the edges on each side of the cracks pushes it toward a rockier look as well.
One idea I want to offer is intelligently duplicating only 2 pieces to create the whole set of stairs:
Keith did this for his stairs and it works really well. Best way to get maximum result for minimal input.
@theluthier Thanks for the feedback :)
I try to rework it on the weekend before I start the bake and painting !
I don´t think that I´ll be able to finish my model today, since I still have stuff for school to do... I hope I can post my final piece tomorrow or on wednesday.
It's okay @fide, week 4 is make-up week. I'll be on discord if you need anything.
@fide, I want to congratulate you on just recently entering Level 5 on CG Cookie. That is a good accomplishment, which required a lot of time participating and learning on the CG Cookie site.
While creating this project's blog I have viewed most participant's Profile page. Being also a Level 4 with not too many points to reach Level 5, I noticed that your rank was a little higher than mine. I knew that you would reach the threshold to Level 5 shortly.
Your porch stairs are looking good. I hope that when you have the time that you finish them.
blanchsb yeah and I´m really happy for the make-up week :)
I might need help with syncing, once I´m done
