    i do not see any vertex showing when I ctrl+right click (Blender 2.79)

      Are you in vertex selection mode? 1 on the number bar.

      In 2.79 Blender used right-Click-Select by Default. In that case, you should: (select a Vertex, when you want to extrude it,) move your Mouse Pointer to the desired position and then press CTRL+LMB.
