About this part. When I try to link modifiers I have the following picture
It looks like all modifiers have been copied, but view of new mesh is too different. Unfortunately I couldn't find what I exactly missed :(
I suspect it may be an issue of scale. If you've scaled that second cube down in Object mode, it's scale is likely something incredibly small. Try applying it's scale via Ctrl + A>Scale. :)
