Hi,
I have made a start on my first car model and just want to know if my topology is decent or not? Could it be better? Its the kind of thing i dont want to go too far only to realise i need to restart to make it work :P
Thanks
Hey jjooble I would say the topology overall is good given only 1 reference photo shown. It has mostly quads with 4 poles and only a few 5 poles where needed. Holding edges are supporting the geometry fairly well. There is a very thin holding edge along the bottom but not for the right side (though you look like there is still some progress to be done there).
I'd say you're getting the hang of it. My one suggestion is maybe doing a rough block-out of the major pieces before committing to Level 2 and Level 3 details so you can avoid those nasty redos. A planned out model is often a little more work up front but loads less in the long run.
Also, I learn many lessons from my modeling mistakes (including redo's). Don't let the mistakes keep you from modeling great things, let them fuel the fire of passion instead!
Thanks for the advice, thats where im at the moment just blocking it out but i want this model to have good topology as its something im pretty weak at right now. So looking to improve it, glad im going on the right direction.
Ive allready made a few mistakes, this is like take 4 of this model haha.
Again much apreciated :D ill crack on with the rest of the peices now
