I BUILT MY FIRST GAME!!! Final

I'm back from my 3 month disappearing act! Over the past 3 months I used the knowledge I've gained from my CGCookie course work to build a game while simultaneously learning Unreal from the ground up (blueprints, lighting, Lumen, level sequences, camera actors, the works). I couldn't have done it without taking courses like the fundamentals course (thank you Jonathan Lampel), the RELIC game asset creation course where I solidified my knowledge of UV unwrapping and materials (thank you Chunck Trafagander), and most recently building modular game assets (thank you Kent Trammell)! While I didn't have Unity installed (but I DO plan on learning Unity and applying that course knowledge in the near future) I DID apply those concepts to a spooky first-person escape room style game in Unreal. You can watch my trailer here (which includes cinematic renders as well as actual gameplay footage) AND if you have a PC with a decent GPU you can download AND play it via this link:

My only request is that if you DO play it, feel free to provide me with some feedback. :) Thank you CGCookie for helping me cross this major milestone in my journey!

I'm getting Bioshock vibes mixed with Arkaham Asylum. Super cool 🤘

Thanks so much!!! Although, I’d probably say my intro was a bit of a ripoff from the original Fallout 3 trailer 😆
Thanks so much for checking it out, Omar! ❤️

  • If you'll make a game out of it ever... man I'm intrigued!! :-) Please let me know

Oh, it IS a game already 😁
I had someone beta test it and found out that while my 4080 you could handle Lumen and virtual shadow maps, it didn’t work on the testers totally respectable 3070Ti GPU. So, I’m currently learning how to make regular shadow maps look prettier (nearly done with that) then I’ll be uploading Skagit Hills to itch.io to download and play (as it’s a bit of an ask to expect anyone to trust some random jabroni’s Google Drive link; that’s asking for a bit too much trust 🤣🤣🤣). So, I’ll be updating my description when I’ve got it all itch.io uploaded 😇
Thanks again, you incredibly talented and supportive buddy-ol’-pal! ❤️❤️❤️

  • Just WaAaAaW Joe, your story telling and visuals are stunning. It got me sucked in that world... I love it so much!

Aaaaaaawe shucks, thanks so much! Environmental storytelling and creating “lore” within the environment is one of my favorite things ☺️
Thanks so much for checking it out! ❤️

Thank you, thank you *bowing repeatedly*
Maybe I’ll have an “encore” in 3-6 months 🤪

  • Great work, Joe! You have really outdone yourself. You should be proud, man. Well done.

Thank yoooooou so much! ALWAYS high praise coming from a talent like yourself ☺️

  • Remarkable work, Joe! Then again, I always expect remarkable work from you. I am, of course, quite sorry to read on the patient form that Ms. Rose has not yet been cured of her idiocy. (Yes, I HAD to stop the video and read it. Ha. ) My favorite part is the shot with the keys on the hook and the one key is BARELY moving back and forth. Nice touch!

Thanks so dang much! And good eye/attention to detail on that VERY subtle key dangling animation - was def something that was intended to be more subtly felt than obviously noticed; but, with your keen attention to detail, of COURSE you would notice that… as well as Ms. Roses lack of improvement in regards to her ‘idiocy’ (medical terms from the 20’s/30’s were so… interesting. 🤣). Thanks again for checking it out! ❤️
