I animate the history of cinema podcast in Blender Final

This project is empty!

Hi, I am Yana. Before I became an animator, I was a journalist. And with this new project I am mixing my two big passions: research and art. This is a pilot episode of Keyframes, an animated video podcast about the history of cinema.

We’ll start by going through classic films from around the world released in 1950 – and some later movies that were influenced by them. As I go from one masterpiece to another, I illustrate it all with my own animations inspired by those films, actors, and places. Any ideas what movies we’ll cover? Every shot in this teaser has a clue. How many do you see? Let me know in the comments, while I am working on finishing this episode. Keyframes 1950 are coming soon!
P.S. Here’s a short video of my work in progress: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/zpFI6Xgrmxo

  • What a fantastic concept for a series! I love movies and I love your animation so I am excited to see what you come up with for each episode! Fingers crossed that there will be a Kurosawa ep...maybe how movies like Seven Samurai and Yojimbo/Sanjuro influenced western...Westerns. :D It's been on my mind recently because of a project I've been working on. o_o;

      Thank you so much! Yes, I am gonna talk about Kurosawa in this very episode, since his Rashomon was one of the big breaks of the year 1950. I am actually working on Rashomon scene for the episode right now! And please, leave a link to your project when it's ready, I would love to see how Kurosawa (and \ or Westerns) influenced you!

      Yes, Cinderella was indeed a 1950 film. The character with the balloons is Gerald McBoing-Boing. This short film was created by the UPA studio that same year and got the Oscar for the Best animated short film. And the balloons have the colors of the UPA logo.
