Grease Pencil illustration I made after watching Paul’s PANELS course.
This started out as a doodle while I was on the phone (the first picture). I liked it enough that I decided to take it further.
On the 4th image, I used the compositor to composite my Grease Pencil illustration onto a photo I took of newsprint drawing paper. I used multiply to combine as that seems the most similar to ink on newsprint (which is what they used in the Silver Age of comics).
this is incredible, John. INDISTIGUISHABLE from the iconic comic. Amazing job!
I'm going to send you an email about being featured in our 2025 Student Reel 👀
Thank you, Kent. I'm a big fan of Spider-Man comics from the Silver Age. This is what happens when one starts a doodle shortly after completing Paul’s PANELS course.
As I mentioned to Yousaf, it was quite a few hours and I still have some tweaking I want to do but have quite busy lately 🤠.
If you need something sooner, feel free to grab the image above or let me know if you need something rendered at a higher resolution.
Thats looking pretty damn good, how much time did it take you man?
Although I did not track my time, I can say it took many hours over multiple sessions.
Wow! I'm an absolute sucker for the classic Lee/Ditko Spider-Man. Amazing and spectacular art!
I love the Lee/Dikto era too! Although I’ll admit I was more influenced by Lee/Romita era for this one (for inking and webbing reference).
I have to agree with @Dostovel . Very classic Spider Man. Nicely done!
Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that from you both!
Man this is awesome. Feels like a legit classic Spiderman illustration. Awesome job 🤘🏻
Thank you, Omar! You are exactly right, I was intentionally trying to draw Spider-Man in the classic style (Silver/Bronze age).
