Hello, guys, This is a creature that I designed for a Halloween contest and thought I might as well post it here too. Hope you guys like it.
I labeled it as final, but I might come back eventually and redo it from scratch, as I already have a few ideas on how to improve it and really liked the concept. Definitely enjoyed working on this guy and learned a lot.
Lore:
A parasitic plant-like creature that collects and infects bone tissue, adding it to its own body by growing its tendrils around it. In so doing it can shape its own body structure to its liking, and it seems to prefer hands with opposable thumbs as its extremities, such racoons and apes (especially humans), as they allow it to skin and remove the flesh from its victims in a more precise manner.
The creature’s core has never been observed since they tend to grow a shell made of osseous tissue that will function as it’s “head” and protect it from predators, but a single red light can be seen from the pores and the crevasses of its shell. Not much is known of the nature or function of this red glow, but it does seem to resemble an eye...
The bright red color of its tendrils is reminiscent of flesh growing and contorting around the bones that it absorbs, which got it the name of “Klatrekød”, which loosely translates as “creeper” or “climbing” flesh.
As its tendrils grow and it absorbs more bones, this seems to cause some sort of reaction where its fleshy tissue starts to ossify and fossilize. As this process advances, it needs to tear out the parts of its body that become petrified and replace these with new bones and tendrils before the ossification process reaches its core, as this would mean its death.
Cool! I'd love to go for a walk in the woods.
Yikes that is creepy. nd I like that you wrote a lore for it, because it's an it, not a him. Imagine seeing something like that one day in a forest. Because if there are octopus and all sort of creepy stuff in the oceans that haven't been discovered, what weird creature could be lurching for reals somewhere 🥶
I recently saw a screening of 1982's The Thing at the cinema. The first part of this creatures lore got me thinking about that! This is excellent!
Great movie!
This is disturbing, haha. I love games like Resident Evil or The Evil Within, and this seems like something that could easily fit into any of those games seamlessly. I also really appreciate the lore. Great work!
Thank you!! I didn´t really know what colors I would go for when I was sculpting, then I just thought the red tendrils looked cool when I was fooling around with the materials, and it definitely gives me vibes of a licker from RE, which I think are cool haha.
Really nice concept, Arnulfo. Those finger like designs that resembles part of his mouth reminds me a lot about the Paramites of Paramonia from the Oddworld game series. Again nice work, man.
Thank you!! I appreciate the kind words. I´m not really familiar with the Oddworld game series but will definitely be checking it out!
