  • A very, very subtle thing but
 how shall I put it? 
on the original painting, the girl’s eyes are alive and well and truly laughing, whereas on a 3D version, they’re just
 neutral: a bit like a mannequin or a robot trying to mimic a smile. Maybe it’s the eyebrows: on the painting, they’re well defined — and we articulate a lot with our eyebrows in real life.
    I know I sound like one of those old whiners who for generations have been saying that the contemporary music is ‘dead’: first, the jazz lovers, rallying against the ‘electric,’ ‘dead’ sounds of rock; then the rockers saying the same stuff about ‘digital,’ ‘dead’ techno. But I honestly don’t mean ‘oil painting vs CG’: it’s not about the medium, it’s about the content.
